Biography:
Oin was a Dwarf of the line of Durin, a member of Thorin Oakenshield's company that journeyed to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. He was one of the thirteen dwarves chosen for the quest.
Along with his brother Gloin, Oin was primarily responsible for lighting fires and gathering fuel during the journey. He possessed a degree of knowledge regarding fire-making and survival skills, contributing practically to the group's needs during their travels through the Wilderland and Mirkwood.
Following the successful reclamation of the Lonely Mountain, Oin remained in Erebor. Later, he accompanied Balin on an expedition to reclaim Moria, the ancient Dwarven kingdom. Sadly, the colony was short-lived, and Oin was killed by the Watcher in the Water, a creature that guarded the West-gate of Moria.
